In an early showdown for the Golden West League boys’ basketball lead, Ocean View High made a strong argument Tuesday night for being the best in the GWL. The Seahawks defeated Garden Grove High 67-55 in the Argonaut gym to improve to 3-0 in league and 13-8 overall.

Grove went to 2-1 in league and 14-7 overall. Ocean View is alone in first after Segerstrom lost to Westminster Tuesday.

The visitors from Huntington Beach led the whole way and at one point in the second half had an 18-point lead. The Argonauts battled back to within 10 points in the late going, but overall could not overcome the Hawks’ height advantage, coupled with their three-point shooting.

Ocean View on the night had 11 treys. Top scorer for the Seahawks was Slater Miller with 23 points, followed by Ramon Lopez with 17. Jerry Martinez had 22 points for Grove, followed by Drake Anzai with nine and Miguel Ortega with eight.

OVHS is next in action Friday at Segerstrom, while GGHS will be at Western the same night.
