We’re far enough into the league season for local prep basketball teams to have showdown games. Here are a few.
- Segerstrom at Garden Grove in a girls’ Golden West League clash at the Argonaut gym today (Tuesday) at 5:45 p.m. Both are 4-0 in league play.
- Los Amigos at Bolsa Grande in a boys’ Garden Grove League clash in the Matador gym today (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. LA is 4-0 in league and Bolsa is 3-1.
- Edison at Corona del Mar on Wednesday in a boys’ Surf League clash at the Sea King gym. Edison is 1-0 in league and 14-9 overall while CDM is 0-1 and 15-7.

Here are the standings for high school basketball leagues involving teams serving our communities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.
BOYS

Stars of the week
Here are some of the outstanding basketball performances from the past week for local athletes.
- Brianna Landeros scored 18 points for Santiago Friday in its 55-37 win over La Quinta.
- Ryann Nadeau scored 12 points for La Quinta in its loss to Santiago.
- Slater Miller scored 23 points for Ocean View last Tuesday in the Seahawks’ 67-55 win over Garden Grove.
- Jerry Martinez scored 22 points for Garden Grove in the loss to OVHS.
- Sydney Gandy of Orangewood Academy scored 14 points in the Spartans’ 50-34 win over Fairmont Prep last Thursday.
- Sandra Balandran of Garden Grove scored 32 points in the Argonauts’ 67-40 win over Western.

Eleven local winter sports teams are ranked in CIF-SS polls this week, and two are top-rated. They are:
Boys’ basketball
- Division 5A: Los Amigos is seventh.
Girls’ basketball
- Open Division: Orangewood Academy (also first in Division 2AA
Boys’ soccer
- Division 2: Santiago is sixth.
Girls’ soccer
- Division 1: Pacifica is sixth.
- Division 5: Santiago is ninth.
Girls’ water polo
- Division 5: Garden Grove is 10th.
- Division 6: Marina is first.
- Division 7: Rancho Alamitos is seventh, Westminster is ninth and La Quinta is 10th.
