Three area city councils will meet next week. Garden Grove and Stanton will convene on Tuesday evening and Westminster on Wednesday
Garden Grove: Buddha’s birthday and a new fence
A request to allow the Buddhist Social Services Center to host a two-day observance of the Buddha’s birthday at Garden Grove Park will go before the city council.
The event would be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 3-6 p.m. and on Sunday, April 19, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The event would include entertainment, seminars, meditation walks and food.
All costs of the event, which has an expected attendance of 3,000 people, would be borne by the BSSC.
Also on the agenda is the award of a contract worth $349,320 to California Landscape & Design to replace the perimeter fence at Atlantis Play Center with a taller and more secure barrier than the existing 6-foot chain link fence.
The council will meet in its chambers in the Community Meeting Center at 11300 Stanford Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
Stanton: Paving for a wider Cerritos Avenue
The award of a construction contract and appropriation of funds to pay for the paving portion of the widening of the Cerritos Avenue project tops the agenda. The contract would be awarded to Onyx Paving Company, Inc in the amount of $210,000.
Funding comes from the gas tax fund. The council will also consider the second reading and adoption of an amendment to the municipal code regarding accessory dwelling units.
The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in its chamber in the Stanton Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave.
Westminster: Picking a new city manager?
At the closed session preceding the regular meeting, the city council at 6 p.m. will discuss the appointment of an interim city manager. The current holder of that office – Eddie Manfro – is stepping down effective Feb. 29, 2020 and the assistant city manager – Chet Simmons – headed for the top job in Los Alamitos.
The open session will begin at 7 p.m. The council will meet in its chambers in the Civic Center, 8200 Westminster Ave.
