City Finance Director Sherry Johnson was named the interim city manager at Wednesday night’s meeting of the Westminster City Council.

Her appointment came in the wake of the announcement that Eddie Manfro, who served as the city’s top appointed official since 2012, was retiring. Assistant City Manager Chet Simmons is leaving his position to become city manager in Los Alamitos.

She is expected to take the job on Feb. 15. Her contract will come before the city council at its Feb. 12 council meeting. A search for her replacement will be conducted.

“As a 27-year Westminster resident, I care deeply about this city and am honored for the opportunity to help this organization and community move forward,” said Johnson, who has worked for the city for over 23 years.

Johnson comes into her new responsibilities in a time of turmoil. A recall election is scheduled for April 7 which could remove three members of the city council and several top city officials are leaving or have left Westminster.
