Local teams collecting basketball titles

SEVERAL local high school basketball teams claimed league titles with wins on Tuesday night (Shutterstock).

It was a night of unofficial crownings, as several local high school teams locked up basketball league titles on Tuesday.

On the boys’ side, Los Amigos grabbed its first varsity hoops crown in a generation, defeating Loara 52-43 to become the 2020 Garden Grove League champs. Brian Pacheco scored 18 points for the Lobos.

Garden Grove claimed no worse than a tie for the Golden West League crown with a 68-47 win over Western. The Argonauts (19-8 overall and 7-2 in league) must still defeat Segerstrom (8-18, 4-5) on Thursday to be outright champs.

On the girls’ side, Garden Grove is the outright GWL champ after defeating Western 73-48. Sandra Balandran led the Argonauts with 37 points. Kathy Tu had 28 for the Pioneers.

In the Garden Grove League, Santiago is the undisputed title-winner after a 51-35 victory over La Quinta. Brianna Landeros scored 17 for the Cavaliers. 

The Surf League crown was won by Huntington Beach via a 62-23 victory over Edison.
