Now that the Oscars and Super Bowl are over, we have to turn to the mundane pleasures of living in one of the most beautiful and vibrant places on planet Earth. To help you navigate the week ahead in the communities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster, here’s our Monday Briefing.

WEATHER: Nice weather all week long during the day, with highs ranging from 69 to 72. Nights will be cool and in the mid-40s to low-50s. A 20 percent chance of rain on Friday.

MEETINGS: A good week for civics students who need to get signed off on their assignment to attend a local government meeting. 

The Garden Grove City Council meets on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and the Westminster City Council meets at 7 on Wednesday.

EVENTS: This Friday is Valentine’s Day, so you might want to visit the greeting card aisle and/or the See’s Candy. Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is Wednesday, but it’s celebrated on Monday, Feb. 17 as “Presidents’ Day.” 

ENTERTAINMENT: Movies opening locally this week include:

• “Downhill.” Will Farrell ducks out when an avalanche threatens his family while on a ski trip. Can he win back the respect of his wife (Julia Louis Dreyfus)? Rated R.
• “Sonic the Hedgehog.” The animated kids’ show is a movie starring James Marsden and Jim Carrey. Rated PG.

SPORTS: This week the CIF-SS playoffs start for basketball, soccer and girls’ water polo. 

Anaheim Ducks host the St. Louis Blues at Honda Center on Tuesday, then the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
