Organizer for 2021 Tet events approved

TRADITIONAL VIETNAMESE garb was a feature of the 2020 Garden Grove Tet Parade (OC Tribune photo).

Now, that’s planning ahead.

The same group – with one addition to its team – that held a Tet Parade in Garden Grove on relatively short notice just two weeks ago won approval to stage an expanded New Year’s event in 2021.

On a 7-0 vote, the Garden Grove City Council approved a request from the trio of TTCS (Tap The Chien Si Viet-Nam Cong-Hoa-Ngoai), the Vietnamese Federation of Orange County and a new group – Little Saigon Tet Parade Association – to organize the parade as well as a concert and float display in and around Garden Grove Park.

The parade would take one of two routes, including the one this year that traveled along Westminster Avenue between Brookhurst Street and Euclid Street, or a different path along Westminster between Brookhurst and Magnolia Street, both in Garden Grove.

In years past, the VAFSC organized a parade in Westminster along Bolsa Avenue, but the permit was assigned to a different group in an action that many believe was tied to the split in the city council in that community.

As a consequence, two Tet parades were held that weekend.
