Shutouts were on Friday’s menu

SHUTOUTS were the order of the day for several local teams in high school baseball action (Shutterstock).

League play got underway Friday for some local high school baseball teams, featuring shutout wins by four area schools.

Jonathan Long of Orange pitched a perfect game for the Panthers as they defeated Estancia 9-0 in an Orange Coast League debut for 2020. Long has not been touched for a run so far this season.

Rancho Alamitos cruised past Loara 9-0 in Garden Grove League play, with Andy Pham getting the three-hit shutout. Also in the GGL, La Quinta beat Bolsa Grande 6-0 and Los Amigos bested Santiago 7-2.

In the Golden West League, Garden Grove smacked Western’s Pioneers 14-0. Nathan Huyler went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored three times for the Argonauts, who are playing their second GWL game.
