The affluent communities of Irvine and Newport Beach are the leaders in the count of confirmed coronavirus cases in Orange County.
That’s according to a report posted Friday afternoon on the OC Health Care Agency’s website.
Irvine has 33 confirmed cases, and Newport 32. Next are Anaheim (28), Huntington Beach (26), Santa Ana (13), Orange and Laguna Niguel (each with 11) and San Clemente with 10.
However, these totals may reflect not the rate of infection but instead the volume of testing.
In The Tribune’s coverage area – except for “Surf City – the raw numbers of cases are very low. Huntington Beach – as noted above – has 26 cases, followed by Westminster with five, Garden Grove with four and Stanton with none.
Thirty-four are listed as “unknown” and 27 are listed as “other,” meaning the cases are in unincorporated communities in the county.
As of Friday, the total case count was 321, up from 256 on Thursday. Two deaths were reported on Friday and the total number of deaths is three.
