Fire does $500,000 in damage

FIREFIGHTERS clean up after knocking down a blaze in Westminster Friday evening that did an estimated $500,000 in damage (OCFA photo).

A fire Friday evening in Westminster did an estimated half million dollars in damage.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the blaze in the 15000 block of Balboa Street inflicted $400,000 in loss to the building and $100,000 to contents.

The fire started in the garage and spread to the attic of a single family home in an area east of Newland Street and between McFadden Avenue and Bolsa Avenue.

It took firefighters from the OCFA, Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach about 20 minutes to knock down the fire. The cause is under investigation and no civilians or firefighters were injured.
