The number of confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County hit a near-record high on Wednesday.
According to the Orange County Health Care Authority, 157 new cases were reported, just one shy of the previous high of 158 noted on May 1, 2020.
Three more deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded, bringing the total number of fatalities to 80. That includes 17 who were residents of skilled nursing facilities.
Overall, Orange County has 3,749 cumulative coronavirus cases to date, including 400 residents of senior nursing facilities and 322 inmates of Orange County jails.
Two hundred forty-eight cases are currently hospitalized, of which 98 are in intensive care units.
On a city-by-city basis, Santa Ana remains the county leader in coronavirus cases at 586, followed by Anaheim with 581, Huntington Beach with 272, Garden Grove with 191 and Orange with 184.
Locally, Westminster and Stanton show counts of 63 and 38.
