Sharp rise in coronavirus cases

NEW CORONAVIRUS cases in Orange County were reported at 296 on Friday, the highest ever (Shutterstock).

The latest count of new confirmed coronavirus cases showed sharp increases in both new infections and deaths in Orange County.

Two hundred ninety-six cases were in Friday’s report from the county health care agency, up from 106 on Thursday and setting a new record high. The old record was 244 on May 20.

So far, 7,064 cumulative cases – of which 3,021 are considered recovered – have been recorded in Orange County, and 174 deaths, of which 84 are patients at skilled nursing facilities. The report from the Orange County Health Care Agency also notes that 283 persons are hospitalized, with 123 in intensive care units.

There have been 148,371 tests administered so far, with 1,932 reported on Friday.

On a city-by-city basis, Santa Ana has the most cases with 1,386, followed by Anaheim with 1,248, Garden Grove with 394, Huntington Beach with 359 and Orange with 309.

Westminster has 159 cases and Stanton 82.
