An incident at the edge of downtown Seal Beach on Saturday led to gunfire when a vehicle driven by a man suspected of being under the influence struck a police car.

According to Seal Beach police, the incident took place around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Seal Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway. A SBPD officer responding to a four-car collision said his vehicle was deliberately struck. The officer fired at the car, striking its windshield.

The suspect was not hit and drove the car away, hitting another Seal Beach police car and then a third vehicle. The suspect – identified as Oscar Eduardo Mercado, 23 of Long Beach – fled his disabled car, according to police, taking two young members of his family with him.

He was arrested and booked into Orange County Jail on four charges, including felony hit-and-run and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. The children were returned to their families.

  1. So where are the defund police people? Where’s the outrage.

If the police had not intervened, Oscar would have probably been OK.
The police had his plate number, assuming the car was his, and could have asked a social worker to pleasantly contact him when he got home. No car crashes or shots fired.

Oscar didn’t kill anyone. If he did cause an accident, everyone has auto insurance.

Socially happy ending in a Disney/Hollywood reimagined world.
