A 54-year-old Huntington Beach man was fatally injured late Friday night when struck by a car when crossing a street in his city.

According to Motor Sgt. Matthew Austin of the HBPD, the accident took place around 11:06 p.m. when officers were called to the intersection of Warner Avenue and Bolsa Chica Street.

Arriving officers found a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, which was driven by a 66-year-old Garden Grove man, and the pedestrian.

Police believe the car was traveling westbound on Warner when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing northbound at Bolsa Chica Street. He suffered “extensive injuries” and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been a factor in the accident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
