A  “date” that allegedly turned into kidnapping has landed a 36-year-old Huntington Beach man in jail.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Ricardo Rodrigo Salas was arrested Monday on suspicion of abducting a 31-year old woman. He’s being held in lieu of $100,000 bail before his arraignment, set for Friday (July 31).

He will face charges of driving under the influence, kidnapping and false imprisonment.

The CHP reports that the victim was on a date with Salas in Costa Mesa when she wanted to end the date, but he allegedly refused and he continued to drive southbound on Interstate 5 toward San Diego.

When the vehicle stopped at a vista point, she was able to escape and called 911. Nearby Camp Pendleton military police caught up with Salas’ vehicle and made the arrest. The woman was not injured.
