The “test-positivity” rate for COVID-19 cases in Orange County continues to drop toward the recommended threshold, according to Friday’s report from the county heath care agency.

It’s now at 9.3 percent, close to the goal of 8 percent. That number indicates what percentage of people who are tested for the coronavirus actually are infected, regardless of whether they show symptoms.

The daily count of new cases reported to OCHCA was at 418, with a new cumulative total of 36,196. Of that number, 23,499 are considered to be recovered.

There are have been 618 deaths reported, with 14 of those in Friday’s results. However, the agency announced Thursday that due to delays in reports reaching it, the count may actually be different than what’s posted. Five hundred ninety-three cases are now in hospitals, with 191 in intensive care units.
