A 25-year-old man suffered fatal injuries early Sunday morning in Huntington Beach when the vehicle in which he was riding crashed.

According to the HBPD, a call about a hit-and-run accident at Springdale Street and McFadden Avenue came in around 12:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a single auto with extensive damage in the intersection. Two men were in the vehicle and it was soon determined it was a solo accident, not a hit-and-run.

The driver, later identified as Miguel Guzman, 21, of Riverside and his passenger, a resident of Moreno Valley, were both trapped in the vehicle and were extracted by fire personnel.

Guzman suffered minor injuries, but his passenger was more severely hurt. Both were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment. The passenger succumbed to his injuries there.

Guzman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Anyone with information on this collision is asked to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
