Vietnam veterans honored

VIETNAM WAR Memorial in Sid Goldstein Freedom Park in Westminster (Wikipedia).

An event honoring those who gave their lives during the Vietnam War will be held on the first Sunday of every month at the Vietnam War Memorial, 14180 All American Way, in Westminster.

All Allied Vietnam veterans are invited to join with veterans of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam and navy in respect for the fallen. The vent will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 756.

The next event is scheduled – rain or shine –  for Oct. 5.

A virtual look at your college future

High school juniors and seniors are invited to take part in the 2020 Virtual College Fair sponsored by the Garden Grove Unified School District for Monday, Oct. 5 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The fair will be an opportunity to explore college interests to determine which college or university is right for you. You will be able to “meet” with representatives from the California State Universities, the University of California and California private colleges and universities.

Students will also be able to learn about the college admission process to begin planning for future goals.

The fair will includes three sessions of presentation and Q&A starting at 6:30, 7 and 7 p.m.

Coaching legend Combs dies at 91

Elmer Combs, the legendary Huntington Beach High School basketball coach, had died of natural causes at 91.

Combs led the Oilers from 1958 to 1977 and over that time, his teams won 328 games and eight Sunset League titles.

The 1967-68 team made it to the CIF-SS finals, losing to Compton High 64-52.
