OC cases up, but deaths decline

The number of new cases in the Orange County Health Care Agency’s report on Friday was 162, up from 141 on Thursday. Deaths were at 10, down from 14.

The numbers of cases hospitalized are counted as 175, up from 172. Intensive care cases rose from 62 to 64. Cumulative cases in Orange County are 55,345, of which 49,628 are considered recovered. Cumulative deaths are 1,316.

Public health officials caution against reading too much into daily tallies. The key metrics that classify counties into “tiers” is based on the twin metrics of test positivity percent and number of positive cases per 100,000. Each of those is computed using a seven-day average with a seven-day lag, and they are updated each Tuesday.

The national and international tallies include this statistics from Johns Hopkins University.

  • The number of global cases of COVID-19 is at 36,715,486 of which 7,630,825 are in the United States, followed by India (6,906,151) and Brazil (5,028,444).
  • Global deaths are at 1,064,533 of which 213,430 are in the U.S., followed by Brazil (148,957) and India (106,490).
