An update on the city’s potential cannabis business prospects is on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Stanton City Council.

The agenda contains an item on applications received so far for “pot”-based enterprises.  So far about 60 such inquiries have arrived at city hall by the deadline of Oct. 29. Stanton is now in the process of screening them through an application evaluation committee.

The city is preparing for commercial operations regarding cannabis-related businesses that could include cultivation, processing and sales. A consultant has told the city that they could bring in $1 million or more in tax revenue to the city.

Also, the council is expected to direct staff to reopen for 30 days applications for cannabis categories for which no applications were received.

The council will meet in teleconference for a closed session at 6 p.m. and the open session at 6:30 p.m.
