Tuesday’s reorganization meeting of the Stanton City Council saw the swearing-in of two returning members and the selection of a mayor pro tem.
Seated for four-year terms were Councilmembers Carol Warren and Hong Alyce Van. The latter had originally been appointed to a seat on the panel in 2019 to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Al Ethans. The new mayor pro tempore is Gary Taylor. Van will serve as District 2 councilmember and Warren as District 4 councilmember as Stanton makes the transition from at-large elections to by-district organization of the council.
In other action, the council voted 5-0 to adopt an ordinance changing the municipal code to include day spas under the same rules as massage parlors and setting a distance requirement of 500 feet between such businesses. The measure will come back to the council on Jan. 21 for final adoption.
