A jury on Wednesday convicted a 42-year-old man of sexually assaulting two girls in Santa Ana in separate incidents.
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Alberto Matt Mendoza was convicted of the 2013 drugging and molesting of a 10-year-old girl who was a family friend. In the other case, in 2007, Mendoza was found guilty of following a young girl who was walking home with a friend after buying food from a fast food eatery.
Armed with a kitchen knife, Mendoza tackled the girl and sexually assaulted her.
Big rig crash in Anaheim kills one
A man driving a “big rig” trailer truck died after a fiery crash Thursday morning on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Anaheim.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place around 3 a.m. near the Kraemer Boulevard offramp. Arriving troopers found the vehicle in flames. The driver was the sole victim of the collision. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
“Drunk driver” blamed in pedestrian’s death
An alleged drunk driver is being blamed for the death of a man crossing the street early Wednesday in Anaheim.
According to the APD, the incident took place around 1:15 a.m. in the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue. Officers located a man lying in a marked crosswalk. The suspect’s van was found a block away, having crashed into a palm tree.
The driver, a 38-year-old Norwalk man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of “serious injuries.” After recovery, he will be booked on felony drunk driving charges.
