A 59-year-old man died early Tuesday morning in the Huntington Beach Navigation Center for the homeless.
According to Lt. David Dereszynski of the HBPD, staff at the center reported a medical emergency at about 5 a.m. Paramedics from the Huntington Beach Fire Department responded and gave medical aid but were unable to revive the patient.
The man, with ties to Huntington Beach, was believed to have pre-existing medical conditions.
Both the HBPD and the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s office will be conducting a joint investigation of the incident. So far, “the investigation has not revealed anything suspicious.”
The decedent’s name is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
The Navigation Center for the unsheltered is located at 17642 Beach Blvd. (north of Talbert Avenue). It opened in December and has a capacity of 174 beds for adults. Patrons can get meals, showers and counseling services.
