The driver of a black sport utility vehicle is being sought in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Huntington Beach Sunday evening in which a pedestrian suffered fatal injuries.

According to Lt. Brian Smith of the HBPD, the incident was reported at 7:16 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Goldenwest Street, north of Oxford Drive.

Despite the efforts of community members to render first aid, the pedestrian – identified initially only as male adult – was pronounced dead at the scene by Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was crossing Goldenwest Street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by the SUV. The vehicle didn’t stop and was last seen moving west on Oxford. Witnesses reported the auto had “significant damage” to its front end and windshield.

After the first collision, the pedestrian was struck by a second vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact the HBPD’s traffic investigators at (714) 536-5670 or (714) 536-5663.
