Thank you to “health care heroes”

The Garden Grove Host Lions Club sponsored an event on Wednesday to thank “essential workers” at Garden Grove Hospital for their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.

Decorating the lobby with signs, balloons and gift bags, the Lions saluted all the nurses, doctors and other “Health Care Heroes” at the facility.

Garden Grove non-profits participating include Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove, Garden Grove Rotary, Garden Grove Neighborhood Association, the Garden Grove Council of Knights of Columbus, and One More Productions. Additionally, Mobile Kitchens USA contributed as well.

WHO is going to lend a hand to the hungry

A “Give Love Food Drive” is being organized by the Westminster Hope and Opportunity Group for Friday, Feb. 12 from 1-6 p.m. The event is for the benefit of the Westminster Family Resource Center.

WHO is asking people to donate cans or jars of food such as soup, meats, vegetables, chili, pasta, beans, peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, cooking oil and bottled juice.

Also needed are packaged items such as beans, rice, oatmeal, Top Ramen, pasta, mac and cheese and individually packaged snacks (granola bars, cookies fruit bars, etc.)

Additionally, the drive could use can openers, napkins and disposables such as bowls, cups and cutlery.

FIREFIGHTERS from the OCFA hoisted the U.S. flag at the Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove where a memorial mass was held Monday for GGPD veteran Lt. John Reynolds.

Honoring GGPD’s Lt. John Reynolds

A private memorial mass was held on Monday at the Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove to say farewell to Lt. John Reynolds of the Garden Grove Police Department. He passed away at the age of 59.

Firefighters from Division 1, Battalion 11 of Orange County Fire Authority were on hand to assist in honoring the veteran officer, as were representatives of area law enforcement agencies and public schools.

Local residents make college dean’s lists

Two local residents have been honored by their colleges for academic performance.

Timothy Nguyen of Garden Grove has been named to the dean’s list at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He is majoring in pre-psychology.

Sarah Bielicki of Huntington Beach has been named to the dean’s list at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.

Checkpoint in Garden Grove Saturday

A DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint will be conducted by the Garden Grove Police Department on Saturday, Feb. 6 at a location within city limits.
