Mixed signals on COVID-19

Sunday’s report from the Orange County Health Care Agency continued to offer mixed signals to anyone trying to figure out just how much progress was being made to battle the coronavirus.

According to the OCHCA, new cases of COVID-19 infections and deaths both rose. On the other hand, hospitalizations and patients being treated in intensive care units both declined.

New cases went from 739 on Saturday to 1,187 on Sunday. Deaths increased from 33 to 46. Hospitalizations dropped from 1,164 to 1,093 and the number of ICU patients fell from 347 to 335.

Cumulative confirmed cases to date are at 238,264, of which 198,368 are considered recovered.

  • Santa Ana: 42,946 (589)
  • Anaheim: 39,740 (616)
  • Garden Grove: 15,520 (261)
  • Orange: 11,204 (167)
  • Fullerton: 10,631 (222)
  • Huntington Beach: 9,970 (159)

Westminster has had 6,638 cases and 133 deaths. Stanton has had 2,982 cases and 43 deaths.
