Campos back as interim top cop

ROY CAMPOS, new interim police chief of Westminster.

City Manager Marwan Youssef has appointed Roy Campos to serve as the interim chief for the Westminster Police Department.

With over 44 years of law enforcement experience, Campos began his career as a police student worker for the Los Angeles Police Department before he was hired by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy sheriff in 1978. Campos graduated first in his class and earned the Honor Cadet distinction.

In 1979, Campos was hired as a police officer by the Downey Police Department where he served for over 30 years, promoting through the ranks. In 2005, Campos was selected as the city’s police chief.

Since his retirement in 2009, Campos has served as the interim police chief in the cities of Signal Hill, Irwindale, and Bell. Campos also served as the interim police chief for Westminster from June 2016 through February 2017.

“I look forward to working with Chief Campos,” said Youssef. “He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and he knows the organization well from serving as our interim chief four years ago.”

Effective immediately, Campos will serve in the interim while the city seeks a permanent chief.
