New cases take a big jump

CORONAVIRUS cases in Orange County rose in Saturday’s report (Shutterstock).

Is it a statistical fluke or a reminder that the coronavirus pandemic isn’t quite over?

Saturday’s report from the Orange County Health Care Agency showed 248 new confirmed cases, a major increase from Friday’s tally of 90.

Deaths rose from six to seven, while hospitalizations declined from 118 to 109. Patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units stayed even at 23.

The to-date total of cases in the county is 251,102, of which 243,222 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 4,768.

  • Santa Ana: 44,564 (831)
  • Anaheim: 41,527 (830)
  • Garden Grove: 16,462 (374)
  • Orange: 11,774 (243)
  • Fullerton: 11,255 (289)
  • Huntington Beach: 10,553 (209)
  • Irvine: 10,411 (81)

Westminster has had 7,097 cases and 195 deaths. Stanton has had 3,147 cases and 66 deaths.
