Pandemic looks under control

VACCINATION is proving to be be a powerful weapon in curbing the growth of the coronavirus pandemic (Shutterstock).

The key metrics for coronavirus in Orange County continue to provide encouragement that the pandemic is waning here.

According to the county health care agency, the number of confirmed new cases on Friday is 87, down from 95 on Thursday. Deaths also declined, from 19 to 16. Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 ticked up from 113 to 114, and intensive care units devoted to corona patients numbered 33, up from 32.

The to-date total of coronavirus cases is now at 251,698, of which 244,018 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 4,820.

  • Santa Ana: 44,596 (838)
  • Anaheim: 41,602 (841)
  • Garden Grove: 16,491 (382)
  • Orange: 11,799 (246)
  • Fullerton: 11,273 (292)
  • Huntington Beach: 10,610 (210)
  • Irvine: 10,491 (83).

Westminster had had 7,105 cases and 200 deaths. Stanton has had 3,148 cases and 66 deaths.
