Beware of Festival booth scam

THE ANNUAL Strawberry Festival raises money for local non-profits. A scammer is trying to sell fake vendor booth permits for a non-existent June 19 and 20 event (File photo).

The annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival was cancelled in 2020 and for 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, but that’s not keeping an unscrupulous person or persons from trying to make money off the situation.

According to Pat Catlin, president of the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association, “There is an imposter presently engaged in an illegal fraudulent scheme to sell false vendor booths to our cancelled” festival. ”We have reported this criminal activity to the Garden Grove Police Department.”

The scam involves asking victims to pay an $80 vendor booth fee for a non-existent “re-scheduled’ festival for June 19 and 20, 2021. Anyone who has been contacted in this way or otherwise has any information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator is asked to report it to the GGPD at (714) 741-5704.
