Is it pandemic fatigue? Or just a little bump in the road?

In Tuesday’s report from the Orange County Health Care Authority on coronavirus, all four major metrics on COVID-19 showed increases.

Confirmed new cases rose from 80 to 90 and deaths went from zero to six. Hospitalizations increased for 115 to 128 and patients being treated for the virus in intensive care rose from 23 to 27.

While the numbers themselves are not huge, some public health officials worry that people are getting tired of the restrictions and safeguards brought by the coronavirus, potentially leading to a new surge.

The to-date total of Orange County cases is at 253,664, of which 246,101 are considered recovered. The death toll is at 4,939.

The rates of vaccinations nationally are increasing, according to a count by The New York Times. That report indicates that 29 percent of American adults have been fully vaccinated, and that 43 percent have had at least one nose.  Disease experts have said that it the level will need to rise to 70 percent in order to achieve “herd immunity.”
