A 27-year-old man was fatally injured when his vehicle was hit by a speeding pickup truck late Saturday night in Garden Grove.
According to Corp. Paul Ashby of the GGPD, the incident took place around 10:54 p.m. at the intersection of Woodbury Road and Libby Lane. That’s southeast of Euclid Street and Trask Avenue,
A black Toyota Camry was stopped at the intersection as a white Nissan Titan truck “approached at a high rate of speed.” The Nissan crashed into the Toyota, pushing it into a collision with two parked vehicles.
The driver of the Nissan lost control of his vehicle and the truck hit a retaining wall on the north side of the street. He then fled the scene, say police, but was caught and arrested.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the car was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where she remained in stable condition.
The Nissan’s driver was found to be driving under the influence and was taken to Orange County Jail in Santa Ana pending determination of criminal charges.
Witnesses to the collision are asked to call GGPD Traffic Investigator Paul Ashby at (714) 741-5823.
