COVID numbers keep sliding

Sunday’s coronavirus statistics for Orange County continue to show a slow, gradual decline in most major metrics.

According to the county health agency, the number of confirmed new cases fell from 55 on Saturday to 52 on Sunday. Deaths fell from two to one and the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units dropped from 25 to 23.

The only increase was in hospitalizations, which rose from 80 to 82.

To date, the number of cases in Orange County has reached 254,744, of which 247, 928 are considered recovered. The death toll is at 5,031.

Nationally, The New York Times is estimating that over a two-week period, the number of cases has declined 32 percent, and deaths are down 13 percent.

In California, the Los Angeles Times reports that cases have declined by 18 percent and deaths by 34 percent.
