A road rage incident is being blamed for the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Orange Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place between 7:55 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes between the Garden Grove (22) Freeway and Chapman Avenue.
The boy’s mother was driving a silver Chevrolet sedan with her son in a rear passenger booster seat when a driver in another vehicle fired an unknown number of shots into her car. The mother pulled over and called 911. The child was rushed to Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Orange when he was pronounced dead.
Details of the incident are not available. The only vehicle description is that of a “white sedan.”
“It was an isolated road rage incident between the mom and another driver from a white sedan,” said CHP Officer Florentino Olivera.
