Two suspects have been arrested in a Jan. 17 murder at a Garden Grove hotel.

According to Lt. Mario Martinez, the men charged with homicide – along with sentencing enhancements for gang activity – are:

  • Enrique Torres, 19, of Los Angeles;
  • Agustin Cortez, 31, of Hawthorne.

They are accused in the shooting death of Eddie Barajas, 28, of Santa Ana, in a lobby hallway at the Hyatt Regency Orange County at Chapman Avenue and Harbor Boulevard.

Police say the incident was reported around 3:48 a.m. and arriving officers found Barajas, who had been shot once in the head. The suspects fled on foot into a parking lot. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his wound.

Over the following weeks and months, GGPD detectives were able to find witnesses who helped identify the suspects as members of Los Angeles gangs.

On May 18, a “multi-location” search warrant was executed in Los Angeles County, which led to the arrests of Torres and Cortez.
