A one-vehicle crash took the life of a motorist early Wednesday morning in Huntington Beach.

According to Jennifer Carey, public information officer for the HBPD, the incident took place at about 1:28 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a traffic accident in the southbound lanes and Pacific Coast Highway near Huntington Street.

Arriving officers found the body of Ricky Martinez, 34, of Huntington Beach, driver of a wrecked white Infiniti FX45.

Police believe the Infiniti was traveling southbound on PCH when it struck a parked vehicle north of Huntington Beach. It then went out of control and hit a traffic signal pole at the southwest corner of the intersection before coming to rest and bursting into flames.

It’s unknown whether drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Anyone who witnessed the incident or events leading up to the crash asked to call HBPD traffic investigators at (714) 536-5670 or (714) 536-5663.
