If you’re on probation, it’s not a good idea to sit in your car with a pistol where someone in a passing car can see you.
In this case, the passing car was a unit from the Garden Grove Police Department.
According to the GGPD, officers from the department’s Community Impact Unit were patrolling an area of Belfast Drive (southwest of Garden Grove Boulevard and Brookhurst Street) early Saturday morning when they spotted a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a Chevrolet Malibu that was parked in an alley.
Police say the man “appeared to panic, quickly exited [the] car and locked the doors behind him.” Officers walking up to the vehicle spotted a “handgun in plain view between the driver’s seat and center console.”
The man was detained and later identified as Jesus Eduardo Ramirez, 29, of Anaheim. It was later determined he is a convicted felon who is on “Post Release Community Supervision.” The loaded handgun was a Glock 17, said police.
Ramirez was arrested without incident. A probation hold was obtained and he was later booked into Orange County Jail.
