Are COVID cases in decline?

The number of new confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County may have peaked and begun a decline.

According to Tuesday’s report from the county health care agency, the number of new cases was at 640, a drop from Monday’s three day average of 727 and Friday’s tally of 1,108.

Deaths stayed even at two, but hospitalizations increased from 453 to 461 and the number of patients being treated in intensive care units from COVID-19 went from 84 on Monday to 89 on Tuesday.

To date, the total of OC cases is at 271,837, of which 253,369 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 5,152.

Across the nation, new cases have risen 118 percent over the past 14 days, according to The New York Times. Deaths are up 101 percent. In California, new cases have climbed by 61 percent and deaths by 65 percent over a similar period, reports the Los Angeles Times.
