For the second day, confirmed new cases of corornavirus in Orange County have showed an increase, as have the number of patients being treated for COVID in intensive care units.

According to the county health agency, 398 cases were reported on Thursday, compared to 305 on Wednesday and 235 on Tuesday. ICU use rose from 72 on Tuesday to 82 on Wednesday and 85 on Thursday.

Deaths fell from eight on Wednesday to six on Thursday and hospitalizations declined from 291 to 279.

To date, Orange County has had 297,635 cases, of which 283,787 are considered recovered. The total of deaths is 5,432.

Nationally, The New York Times is reporting that new cases are down 26 percent, and deaths are up 2 percent over a 14-day period. In California, Los Angeles Times calculates that new cases are down 30 percent and deaths are down 20 percent over a similar period.
