Billionaires targeted by potential tax
Trying to find enough money for President Joe Biden’s proposed social policy and climate change legislation – estimated at $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion – Democrats are considering a 15 percent minimum tax on corporations on profits to shareholders, The New York Times is reporting.
Additionally, billionaires could be taxed on “unrealized gains,” such as increase in the value of “liquid assets” such as stocks ands bonds.
Because of the complexities of the federal tax codes, some very wealthy corporations and individuals pay little or no federal income tax. However, there is some question about the legality of taxing income that may turn out to be theoretical, as the value of stocks and bonds can fluctuate and even decline.
