Argos upset; Western wins OL

SEGERSTROM defeated Garden Grove Friday night to force a tie for the Big 4 League title; Western is the outright Orange League winner with a victory over Huntington Beach High (Shutterstock).

Segerstrom defeated Garden Grove 24-13 on Friday night at Monsoor Stadium to force a tie for the Big 4 League title. The Jaguars finished the regular season with an overall 4-6 record but are 2-1 in league. The Argonauts are 7-3 and 2-1.

Grove led 13-10 at the half but the turning point came in the third quarter when the visitors returned an Argo fumble for a touchdown. Segerstrom sealed the deal with a TD in the final two minutes. Both teams will advance to the CIF-SS football playoffs beginning next week.

Edison defeated Huntington Beach 41-6 to lock up second place in the Sunset League. The Chargers are 7-3 and 4-1. The Oilers finished 4-6 and 1-4, good for fifth place.

Western took the Orange League title outright with a 48-0 win over Magnolia. The Pioneers are 7-2 overall and 5-0 in league. The Sentinels finish 4-6 and 2-3.

Loara rallied from a 10-0 deficit to defeat La Quinta 21-10, creating a three-way tie for third place in the Garden Grove League and the final playoff spot for the league. The Saxons are 4-6 overall and 2-3 in GGL play. Also 2-3 are La Quinta and Los Amigos.

CIF-SS divisions and brackets will be announced on Sunday. We’ll have the pairings for teams in The Tribune’s coverage area.
