Pacifica High’s football team ended an otherwise successful season on a disappointing note Thursday night, losing 35-14 to Mira Costa in a first round CIF-SS Division 7 game at Bolsa Stadium.
The Mariners finish the year with an 8-3 mark.
Darius Cowens threw for touchdown passes of 28 and 30 yards to Jordan Ross for Pacifica, the third place team in the tough Empire League. Cowens passed for 253 yards for the M’s and Ross had nine catches for 114 yards.
Edward “Jun” Ramos rushed for 123 yards for the home team.
The visiting Mustangs (now 6-5), the third place team from the Bay League, jumped out to a 14-0 lead early and were up 28-7 at halftime.
Matthew Kraskouskas scored on touchdown runs of 27 and 50 yards for the team from Manhattan Beach. He also caught a 42-yard TD pass. He ended up with 201 yards rushing.
Loara Saxons advance to quarterfinals
Dre Sanchez passed for one touchdown and ran for another as Loara defeated Nuview Bridge High 30-8 in a first round CIF-SS Division 14 game Friday night at Glover Stadium in Anaheim.
The Saxons (now 5-6) were an at-large entry after finishing fourth in the Garden Grove League. They benefited from six turnovers by the Knights.
Loara now advances to the quarterfinal round next Friday against the winner of the Pomona-El Monte game.
