Trash pickup to resume Friday

TRASH BINS overflowing should begin to be emptying starting Friday as a strike by sanitation workers has reached a tentative agreement (Orange County photo).

It’s over. Probably.

Customers of Republic Services for trash and recycling pickup in the West Orange County area can expect to have service restored on Friday.

The City of Garden Grove has announced that Republic will resume operations, as pickups scheduled for today (Dec. 16) will be conducted Friday and Saturday, and service scheduled for Friday will be conducted on Saturday.

Customers should leave bins at the curb for collection until service is completely restored and excess trash can be bagged and left next to them.

Bulky item collection will resume on Monday but may be delayed because of the accumulation of waste.

Tentative agreements were announced Thursday between Republic and the Teamsters union local that represents about 400 sanitation workers based in Anaheim and Huntington Beach.

Union members have not yet voted on the deal, but approval is expected.
