Santiago High’s basketball teams got off to a fast start in Garden Grove League play on Wednesday.

The Cavalier girls (11-5) defeated La Quinta 69-13. Neryah Lokeni led all scorers with 24 points and added 10 rebounds. Alexia Valencia scored 17.

The Santiago boys’ team (11-8) edged La Quinta 61-57 in a battle of two of the top teams in the GGL. The Aztecs are 9-8 overall.

In other Grove League action, the Bolsa Grande boys’ (8-6) defeated Rancho Alamitos (6-12) by the score of 44-31. The Bolsa girls (2-12) beat Rancho Alamitos (2-10) by the score of 30-27.

In non-league play, Newport Harbor defeated Marina 70-64 in two overtimes. The Vikings are 13-5.
