Neighbor is rescued from fire

An alert citizen is credited with possibly saving the life of a neighbor from a fire on Friday afternoon in Seal Beach.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the blaze was reported at a home in the 13000 block of Thunderbird Drive around 1:30 p.m.

That’s northwest of Seal Beach and Westminster boulevards.

The citizen heard his neighbor yelling for help and he immediately responded, running over and helping the man escape from his home and the fire.

There were no injuries. The OCFA provides fire and paramedic service for Seal Beach as well as Garden Grove, Stanton, Westminster and other area cities.

GGUSD to honor top employees

At its meeting on Tuesday, the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education will honor its employees of the month as well as “Coaches and Student Athletes of Character.”

The presentations will be made by Jason Bevacqua, assistant superintendent for personnel services, and Kelly McAmis, assistant superintendent for secondary education.

The meeting will be held in-person at 10331 Stanford Ave. All attendees will be required to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status. Public comments prior to the closed session are scheduled for 5 p.m., with the closed session to commence at 5:05 p.m. The regular meeting is set for 7 p.m.

The GGUSD is a K-12 district serving most of Garden Grove as well as portions of Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Stanton and Westminster.
