Increase follows days of decline

After several days of declines, the count of confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County increased on Thursday.

According to the county health care agency, the latest daily tally is 6,532, up from Wednesday’s 4,261. Deaths increased from three to five.

However, hospitalizations decreased from 1,232 to 1,183 and the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units went from 207 to 199.

So far, Orange County has had 466,107 cases of coronavirus, of which 323,606 are considered recovered. The total of deaths is 5,916.

Across the nation, The New York Times is reporting that – over a 14-day period – new cases are up 29 percent and deaths by 48 percent. In California, new cases are up 60 percent and deaths by 127 percent, reports Los Angeles Times.
