UPDATE: Four of seven local high school boys’ basketball teams won their second round CIF-SS games on Tuesday night and will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday.
In Division 2AA, Marina lost 75-58 to Foothill, but in 2A play Edison bested Elsinore 75-57. At the 3A level, Orangewood defeated Camarillo 63-47.
Garden Grove beat Alhambra 70-58 in a 4AA contest, led by Miguel Ortega’s 27 points. Western edged Cate 48-47 in a 4A contest and in 5A, La Quinta defeated Buckley 51-47.
In a 5AA matchup, Bolsa Grande fell to Northview 54-35.

We’re heading into the second round of the CIF-SS basketball playoffs for boys’ and girls’ basketball. The boys will play tonight (Tuesday) and the girls on Wednesday. Quarterfinal action will be Friday (boys) and Saturday (girls).
Eleven local teams are still in action.

The CIF-SS boys’ volleyball pre-season watch list points out three local teams. Huntington Beach is on the Division 1 and 2 list, while Edison is among the elite in Division 3. Magnolia makes the cut for the best in Division 6.
In baseball, Huntington Beach is rated number three in Southern California by Los Angeles Times. In softball, The Times is giving pre-season honors to Huntington Beach pitcher Zoe Prystajko, a sophomore with 86 strikeouts in 40 innings for the Oilers in her freshman year.
