COVID cases continue to fall

The count of confirmed new coronavirus cases in Orange County continues to tumble, encouraging hope that the worst of the “winter surge” is over.

According to the county health care agency, new cases declined to 633 from Tuesday’s 702. Hospitalizations also fell, going from 431 to 415.

However, deaths rose from 18 to 19 and the count of people being treated in intensive care units for COVID-19 increased from 77 to 79.

To date, confirmed coronavirus games are at 534,732, of which 490,897 are considered recovered. The total of deaths is at 6,395.

Across the nation, new cases have declined 67 percent – over a period of two weeks – and deaths by 12 percent, according to The New York Times. In California, new cases are down 17 percent and deaths are up 19 percent.
