New cases continue to rise

While confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County are rising quickly, other statistics on the pandemic are going the other way.

According to the county health agency, new cases rose to 731 on Friday from 311 on Thursday and 215 on Wednesday.

However, deaths declined from 26 to 8 and hospitalizations went from 137 to 129. The number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units fell from 27 to 25.

To date, Orange County has had 544,844 cases of coronavirus, of which 533,096 are considered recovered. The total of deaths is 6,828.

Nationally, The New York Times reports that – over a 14-day period – new cases are down 48 percent, and deaths down 28 percent. In California, Los Angeles Times reports a decline of 50 percent and deaths of 36 percent.
