A suspect wanted in the December 2021 murder of an Anaheim man has been arrested.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, Franky Mejia Echeverria was arrested without incident during a vehicle stop conducted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in the area of Beach Boulevard and Ball Road in Anaheim on Friday at around 3:30 a.m. He was booked into Orange County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
Echeverria was wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting in Dec. 21, 2021 in the 2100 block of E.Balsam Avenue in Anaheim around 4:15 p.m. Arriving officers found David Gutierrez Hernandez, 23, a father of two, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation that followed led to identifying Echeverria, a 20, of Anaheim, as a suspect, along with Damien Rubalcava, 20, of Costa Mesa. The two suspects are both suspected gang members, according to APD; the victim was not.
